CUSTOM WEB APPLICATIONS AND BUSINESS PORTALS

Custom Software Built Around the Way Your Business Runs

Most small businesses run on a patchwork of spreadsheets, paper forms, text messages and off-the-shelf subscriptions that each solve a third of the problem. The owner ends up being the glue that holds it all together.

A custom web application replaces that patchwork with one system designed around your own workflow. Staff record work once, on a phone or tablet, at the moment it happens. The office sees live status instead of chasing people for updates. Your accounting and email tools are connected, so nothing is typed twice.

Uniweb has been building websites for Australian businesses since 2011. We now use the same in-house Sydney team to design and build custom web applications, business portals and workflow automation for small and medium businesses.

Talk to Us About Your Workflow

Signs Your Business Has Outgrown Spreadsheets and Paper

If two or more of these sound familiar, custom business software will usually pay for itself in saved admin time.

How It Runs Today

  • Paper timesheets re-keyed into payroll every week
  • Job details living in group chats and people’s heads
  • Safety and compliance records kept in folders and drawers
  • Dispatch run from whiteboards and email threads
  • Several subscriptions that do not talk to each other
  • Hiring office staff just to move information around

With a Custom Web Application

  • Hours captured once on a phone, approved and pay-ready
  • One live job board the whole team trusts
  • Signed, timestamped records found in seconds
  • Dockets, packing slips and invoices from one screen
  • One system connected to your accounting and email
  • Growth without the extra admin overhead

Custom Web Applications We Build for Small Businesses

Every project is scoped to one business. These are the building blocks we combine most often. If you can describe the workflow, we can build the software for it.

Time, Attendance and Rostering Apps

Phone clock in and out with GPS and site geofencing, breaks, overtime rules, rosters, leave requests and approvals. No more paper timesheets.

Payroll Preparation

Approved hours turned into pay-ready data with rates, allowances and penalties, exported to Xero, MYOB or your payroll provider.

Employee Management Systems

Staff records, onboarding checklists, licences and tickets with expiry reminders, document storage and role-based access.

Job Management and Dispatch Software

Job cards, scheduling, live status, delivery and pickup runs, and proof of delivery with photo and signature.

Quoting, Ordering and Invoicing

Quote builders, order pipelines and invoices raised straight from completed work, then synced to your accounting software.

Safety and Compliance Apps

Site diaries, toolbox talks with signatures, inductions, SWMS and incident reports, all with printable records for audits.

Inventory and Production Tracking

Stock levels, production queues, material traceability, supplier orders and low-stock alerts for workshops and factories.

Customer and Supplier Portals

Secure logins where your customers book, approve, pay, download documents or track the progress of their job themselves.

Dashboards, Reports and Integrations

Live owner dashboards and Excel or PDF exports, connected to Xero, MYOB, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, SMS and payment gateways.

Featured Build: Site Operations App for a Demolition and Civil Contractor

The brief was to replace paper-based site records with one phone-based workforce management app, and give the office a live view of every site. It is built for people in gloves and hi-vis: large buttons, almost no typing, and one clear task per screen.

  • GPS clock in and out with project geofencing, flagged rather than blocked when off site
  • Labour hire logging with automatic costing against agreed rates
  • Truck movement logs with verified stop locations
  • Daily site diaries with photos and hire documents
  • Toolbox talks signed on each attendee’s own phone, with printable records
  • A document and training library with per-project and per-person access
  • Admin dashboard with live attendance, flagged entries and automatic closing of forgotten sessions

Featured Build: Production and Dispatch Portal for a Duct Manufacturer

This web portal tracks every coil of steel from the day it arrives, through production and quality checks, to the docket it leaves on. It also tracks which customer is holding which rack, and for how long. It is built with Node.js and PostgreSQL and hosted in Sydney.

  • Coil intake and batch tracking, with quality sheets completed as each rack is made
  • Dispatch dockets and packing slips built from live stock
  • Invoices raised into Xero from each customer’s own rate card
  • Certificates of conformance traceable back to the coil each product was made from
  • Rack return receipts signed by the driver
  • Reports by customer and product, with one-click Excel export
  • Floor staff log in with a short PIN that only works on the yard network

Business Software Built for Australian Rules

Software for Australian employers has to respect Australian obligations. We design for these from the start and confirm the specifics with your accountant or payroll adviser.

Awards and Agreements

Configurable pay rules for ordinary hours, overtime, penalties and allowances, set up with your adviser against the relevant award or agreement.

Single Touch Payroll and Super

Output prepared for your STP-enabled payroll software or provider, with superannuation figures calculated for review.

GST, BAS and Invoicing

Tax invoices with ABN and GST handled correctly, and a clean sync to Xero or MYOB for BAS.

WHS and Site Safety

Digital inductions, toolbox talks, site diaries and incident records with timestamps, signatures and printable PDFs.

Record Keeping

Time and wage records stored and retrievable in line with Fair Work record-keeping expectations.

Australian Time Zones

Correct handling of AEST and AEDT, Queensland without daylight saving, and Western Australia.

We build the software. Payroll interpretation, tax and legal compliance remain the responsibility of your accountant, payroll specialist or legal adviser, and we are glad to work alongside them.

Web Applications for Every Kind of Australian Small Business

Our two featured builds would not suit every business, and that is the point. Each application is designed around one business and the way its people already work. We are based in Sydney and build custom web applications for businesses across Australia.

Already have a website with us or elsewhere? A web application can sit alongside it, share its login, or connect to your online store and WordPress website.

  • Construction, demolition and civil contractors
  • Trades and landscaping businesses
  • Manufacturers and fabricators
  • Transport, logistics and delivery operators
  • Cleaning, security and facilities services

Our Web Application Development Process

1. Discovery

We walk through how work actually flows today: the forms, spreadsheets, handovers and pain points. You get a written scope and a list of what to build first.

2. Proposal

Modules, screens and integrations set out in plain language, with a fixed quote for each stage, so you can approve it in parts.

3. First Working Version

We build the highest-value module first and put it in your hands on a test site, so you see real software early.

4. Refine With Your Team

Your staff test it on their own phones. We adjust wording, layout and rules based on what they tell us.

5. Go Live

Hosting, backups, SSL, data import, and a short training session or guide for your staff.

6. Support and Growth

Ongoing hosting and maintenance, with new modules added as your business grows.

What is the difference between a website and a web application?

A website tells people about your business. A web application runs part of it. Staff or customers log in and do real work in it, such as clocking in, raising a docket, approving a timesheet or tracking an order, and the data is stored in a database you own.

How much does custom web application development cost?

It depends on scope, so we quote after a short discovery conversation. Every project is broken into stages with a fixed quote for each, and most businesses start with the single module that saves the most time. You only commit to the next stage once the last one has proven itself.

How long does it take to build a web application?

A focused first module can usually be in your hands on a test site within weeks. Larger systems are delivered in stages, so you are using working software early instead of waiting months for a big reveal.

Is custom software too big for a small business?

No. Small teams often gain the most, because today the owner is the system. We start with one pain point, such as timesheets or dispatch, and grow from there as budget allows.

Can you integrate with Xero, MYOB or Microsoft 365?

Yes. We connect web applications to Xero and MYOB for invoicing and payroll data, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for email, plus SMS and payment gateways. Where an existing tool already does its job well, we integrate with it instead of replacing it.

Will it work on phones, or do we need a separate mobile app?

Our web applications are designed for phones first and can be installed to the home screen like an app, with no app store needed. If you do need a listing on the App Store or Google Play, we can package the same application for both.

Who owns the code and the data?

You do. Your data lives in your own database, hosted in Australia, and we hand over the source code and documentation. Any competent developer can pick it up if you ever stop working with us.

Where is our data hosted?

We host business applications in the AWS Sydney region with encrypted connections, automatic SSL and nightly backups, so your business and employee data stays in Australia.

What is the difference between a custom plugin and a web application?

A custom plugin adds a feature to a WordPress website, such as a booking form or a calculator. A web application is a standalone system for running operations. We build both, and will recommend whichever is the simpler fit for the job.

Do you build web applications for businesses outside Sydney?

Yes. We are based in Sydney and work with businesses across Australia, including Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and regional areas. Discovery, demonstrations and training all work well over video calls.
